Mother…

QD has taken to calling Irish Boy and I Mother and Father. I am not quite sure why this bothers me but it really does.

I don’t know if it is the lovely negative term that tends to follow the word Mother or if it just seems too formal to be coming out of such a nonformal child but it grates on me…kind of like nails on a chalkboard.

But she uses it more often than not so I guess I just need accept it and hope that eventually she will revert back to using mom or mama!

Sneaky little thing

Year round we keep a plastic Halloween pumpkin bucket in one of our cupboards. We keep treats for the kids in it for when they are really good!

Well, of course right now it is full - and has actually overflowed to one of our glass bowls. And because Halloween was less than a month ago, they are still allowed to get a treat every night as long as they behave pretty well!

And every night as soon as dinner is finished they start with the “Can we have something out of the pumpkin?” spiel.

Last night I told them that I didn’t want to hear them ask about treats, the pumpkin, dessert, etc. As soon as it would be time for their treat, Irish Boy and I would let them know!

Later, QD was sitting with Irish Boy on the couch and I was at the computer when I heard this question.

“Mommy. When are you going to open the cupboards?”

“When am I going to do what?”

“When are you going to open the cupboards?”

“Why would I open the cupboards?”

OK at this point Irish Boy has caught on and I am still in the dark — not a shock!

“Because if you open the cupboards, you may find the pumpkins!”

Nutty Mother still in the dark; Irish Boy is trying to hide his laughter.

“What are you talking about? Why would their be pumpkins in the cupboards?”

“Because the pumpkins have treats in them and the pumpkins are in the cupboards. So when are you going to open the cupboards?”

Really I was floored! Laughing but floored!

And honestly, if she is that smart to get around the “asking” for a treat at 4 then I am sending her to a convent now because we are all in big, big trouble!

And I have known that we are in big, big trouble since she was born but every time I think it can’t get any worse…it does!

But really…you have to love her creativity!

While sharing some pudding with me QD declares

“Chocolate pudding is like mud but it tastes better”

I didn’t dare ask her how she knows what mud tastes like :)
