Why I Need This Election To Be Over

The Boy was born asking questions! I really do swear that the kid started asking questions from the womb!

Both Irish Boy and I applaud this and never dissuade him! Which is how months ago I ended up having to answer “But what do we do if our soldier dies?”

So now of course it is “Mommy who are you voting for?”

I have no problem answering this question but I am often bothered by children that just regurgitate what they have heard from their parents! Parents that force their views - political, religious, etc. - onto their children - without explaining or letting the children come to their own conclusions drive me nuts!

Yes, I know he is young and I know that we need to instill ethics, beliefs, etc. in him but there is a point of going too far! (The Boy was a forced Catholic as a child and that did nothing but harm)

So here I am stuck wanting to explain and answer all his questions but without seeming like I am preaching to him. I keep hoping that I am succeeding!

Where is this all coming from you may ask? The kids at school! My son was told today that he is ignorant and doesn’t like black people because his mom isn’t voting for Obama.

The ignorant part he didn’t get and I had to figure out how to explain it! But the “doesn’t like black people because his mom isn’t voting for Obama,” yeah he got that! And I had to try and explain how voting does not equal like or dislike based on sex, race, religion, sexuality, etc. - at least not in my house!

So can we please go back to “Why do the leaves change colors?” That is a question I can Google and get a definitive answer for!

Next time I need to listen to my mom when she says that this parenting gig is not easy!

I love helpful people!

Kraft Foods is on my list today!

So one of my guys in Iraq, B, is craving some Chile Picante Corn Nuts. So I go to the Kraft website and do a product locator search! Nothing within 25 miles of my zip code. Damn!

I send an email to Kraft explaining the situation and asking how to get my hands on these! I get an auto reply that includes a phone number. I decide to call the phone number and wish that I didn’t!

The lady performs the EXACT same search that I did online and politely informs me that they are not stocked in my area. No really???? I didn’t quite get that when I did the search on my own!!!

So, I again explain to her what I am trying to accomplish and that I know they aren’t in my area but that I really need to get my hands on them for someone serving in Iraq. She tells me “Ma’am we don’t control what the stores order, this is just our product.” Um and that is exactly my point! IT IS YOUR PRODUCT!! Why can’t you help me out with this?!? UGH!

I have a call into WalMart where a very nice lady named Kim is checking into things to help me out! Hopefully she will be able to come through for me!

I just don’t get it - Political Issues & Name Calling

Living with a 4 and 6 year old, I often hear name calling – stupid, dummy, meanie, etc. It is not a tolerated behavior in my house although I completely understand that it is the nature of their ages.

In adults, this behavior astonishes me – and I am not excluding myself! If only Brian could hear what I call him under my breath ;) However, the adults of this country often amaze me with the way we bounce back to elementary school mentality to try and make our point, rather than discussing facts.

I was under the impression that as adults, educated in the real world, school or both, we were to discuss the facts of a matter in order to assist each other in understanding opposing views. That doesn’t mean we will agree in the end but we come out of it with more information and possibly a better understanding of the issue as a whole.
