Irish Boy vs. Queen Diva

Hang on…I am still laughing!

Whew…OK Now!

While waiting to leave for the bus stop, The Boy was bouncing a ball against the pantry doors. Irish Boy was fine with that but evidently QD was not! So she yelled at The Boy to stop. Which of course then had Irish Boy telling her that it was not her job to yell at The Boy and to stop. Which of course produced a very loud, very defiant “NO.” Which then led to Irish Boy telling QD to go to her room. Which then produced another very loud, very defiant “NO.” (Oh here it comes….) Which then caused Irish Boy to pick up QD, throw her over his shoulder and carry her kicking and screaming to her room!

Such a beautiful start to the day!

Then a little while later, Irish Boy was taking his morning snooze on the couch and QD was watching her shows and decided that it would also be a good idea to wear Daddy’s flip flops. That is until one of the flip flops hit the screen of Irish Boy’s 61″ DLP TV. Oh poor QD - OK not really! But the poor child knew that she was in big, big trouble even before it happened! The tears and apologies started immediately.

But here is the thing…You don’t mess with Irish Boy and his TV. Especially right at the beginning of football season and the endĀ of baseball! That is a monstrous no no!

So what did QD get as punishment? The most horrid thing you can imagine…Really, it is just painful to type…Irish Boy shut the TV off!

I am sure the whole neighborhood heard her howling over that one! LOL!

A “Wow! I’m the parent” moment!

Go ahead and laugh! And I know it is at me and not with me because as we all know Irish Boy doesn’t think I am funny!

The other night The Boy saw some boys that he rides the bus with out in front of our house. He wanted to go and play with them so I said fine. Then I sat in my library and watched through the blinds. Cause you do know that even at 5.5 it is not cool for your mom to watch!

After about 10 minutes, The Boy comes in and says that the other boys have to go home but they invited him to go over and play.

My response “No. I don’t really know the kids and I don’t know their parents. So until I meet the parents the answer is no.”

His very intelligent response to me “You don’t have to know them mommy. I am going to be the one playing with them and I know where their house is so you don’t have to worry about that. But I know them from the bus.”

And really his logic made complete sense to him. And I really didn’t want to crush his little heart b/c I want him to make friends but NO!

But this was that “Wow! I’m the parent” moment. One of the many things you heard from your parents and swore that you would never say. But here is my mature revelation…

Most things like “I don’t know their parents” or “I have to meet your friends before you go out” have a reason. And that reason is that your parents love you - no really they do - and they want what is best for you and to protect you. (Even though GG constantly told us to go haunt a house or play in traffic, it was said with such love in her voice. No really. It was!)

And of course that knowledge is a coming of age and life experience thing but it is always funny for me when I figure out that I am the parent. Yes, I know, I am weird!

All of the above aside, I still don’t like the answer “Because” coming from a parent because I do think kids understand it better sometimes if you try and explain! ;)

Please watch the comments for some sarcastic response from GG. You know she can’t resist!

Clayton County Loses Accreditation

Posted in News, School by Nutty Mother Thursday August 28, 2008

I am so glad that I don’t live in Clayton County. If I was the parent of a high school student there, I would be beyond livid.

And I understand that something needed to be done but unfortunately the loss of accreditation takes it out on the children and not the idiots that got the county schools into this position in the first place!
